With minimal warning signs, no early detection test, limited funding and no cure, once ovarian cancer is diagnosed, it is often too late. In Australia three women die from the disease every day, and close to 300,000 women globally are diagnosed every year.
The key to changing the statistics is research and awareness. The more attention we can focus on this important disease and the more funding we can direct towards understanding this “silent killer”, the better our chance of changing the outlook for ovarian cancer patients.
That's why UNSW Sydney and CAMILLA AND MARC have partnered to launch the “Ovaries. Talk About Them” campaign, which aims to get women and men talking about ovaries and ovarian cancer, calling for a new wave of awareness for a silent disease that affects so many.
Creative Director Camilla Freeman-Topper and CEO Marc Freeman lost their mother to ovarian cancer 26 years ago when they were 11 and 13 respectively. Motivated by their devastating loss and personal connection to the disease, CAMILLA AND MARC have created two Limited Edition t-shirts, with proceeds being donated directly to Ovarian Cancer Research, UNSW Sydney to find an early detection test.
Proceeds from this campaign will be directed towards my lab’s efforts to develop an early detection test for ovarian cancer. We have already made good progress, however your donation will give our research a significant boost and support us to validate an effective, early detection test.
The “Ovaries. Talk About Them” campaign will play an important role for every person affected and impacted by ovarian cancer. By introducing an early detection test women will be provided with the knowledge, resources and power to know their ovaries.
